Outstanding authors and illustrators of New Zealand children’s books are celebrated in May when the New Zealand Post Book Awards for Children and Young Adults are announced.

The 2009 winner of the Picture Book category was Roadworks. Gregory O'Brien won the Non Fiction award with Back & Beyond, Kate de Goldi's 10 P.M. Question took the Young Adult Fiction Award and the New Zealand Post Book of the Year, and the Junior Fiction winner was Old Drumble by Jack Lasenby.

The Best First Book winner was Violence 101, written by Denis Wright.

The Finalists in the 2010 Awards will be announced March 4, 2010.
