Book of the Black Star, The Wendt, Albert Using words hand drawn in ink and swooping in patterns of dense black lines, Albert Wendt's fourth collection of poetry combines words and images in short poems that draw on Samoan language and myth, dreams and memories, as well as his daily life as a poet, grandfather and teacher in Auckland. These 'imagetexts' recall the worlds of tattoo, tapa and graffiti, and also of the central motif of the black star, a mysterious force which drives the collection. They confirm Wendt as a consistently challenging and imaginative writer and artist. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
